Herbarium Collection - Staghorn Sumac

This hand-carved linoleum block print series was built from a personal collection of pressed flowers, plants and leaves.

This Sumac specimen was collected on the banks of the St. Lawrence River and was carved during a residency in Copenhagen in 2024. The Staghorn Sumac is native to eastern North America, it is one of the most recognizable species. Its name comes from the fuzzy, velvety texture of its young branches, resembling the velvet on a stag’s antlers. It grows up to 30 feet tall and is prized for its ornamental value, especially for its fall color.

It is printed to order on beige pacon paper with linseed oil inks in tones of burgundy and rose and measures 45cm x 30cm.
